Safeguarding Our Communities

A Shared Commitment to Safety and Dignity

As Seattle prepares to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, the SeattleFWC26 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is ensuring that every visitor and resident experiences a city that is safe, welcoming, and grounded in respect for human rights.

Through a landmark partnership with Businesses Ending Slavery & Trafficking (BEST) and a network of labor, government, and community partners, SeattleFWC26 is leading a multi-layered Human Trafficking Prevention Initiative that will leave a lasting legacy of awareness, coordination, and care

Human Trafficking: Train Workers

SeattleFWC26 has partnered with Businesses Ending Slavery & Trafficking (BEST) to provide free prevention training and awareness materials to hospitality, tourism, transportation, and event-zone workers across the region.
Training helps staff recognize signs of trafficking, respond appropriately, and take action before exploitation occurs.

To extend reach and sustainability, SeattleFWC26 is also collaborating with MLK Labor to integrate Human Trafficking Awareness Training into worker education offered through the Union Hiring Hall and UnTemp.org, ensuring that thousands of union and temporary workers are prepared to identify and prevent trafficking in their workplaces.

Free Training & Awareness Resources

  • Complimentary BEST Basics training licenses for local hotels, restaurants, and event venues
  • Printable indicator handouts, QR-code posters, and digital materials for staff areas
  • Integration into existing labor and workforce readiness programs

“Our goal is to set a new industry standard that extends beyond the tournament—creating safer workplaces and communities long after the final match.”
Leo Flor, Chief Legacy Officer, SeattleFWC26

Human Trafficking: Amplify MMIWP Awareness

In partnership with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians (PTOI) and the Attorney General’s Office MMIWP Workgroup, SeattleFWC26 will support a Native-led awareness campaign during May 2026, coinciding with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People (MMIWP) Awareness Month.

This collaboration will amplify Indigenous leadership and storytelling, raise awareness through public art and digital channels, and align with the LOC’s broader effort to center Indigenous voices and visibility leading up to the World Cup.

Human Trafficking: Survivor Advisor Pilot

SeattleFWC26 is working with partners in public safety and survivor advocacy to embed a Survivor Advisor within the World Cup Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
This pilot will test the long-term feasibility of including someone with lived experience and trauma-informed expertise in large-scale event operations—ensuring that when individuals affected by trafficking are identified, they receive supportive, survivor-centered care.
