SeattleFWC26 Hosts Successful Human Trafficking Prevention Strategy Workshop

Blog
October 13, 2025

Last week, we welcomed business and community leaders to its first Human Trafficking Prevention Strategy Workshop, held at the Local Organizing Committee’s offices in Pioneer Square.

More than 8 organizations participated in the session, which was led in partnership with Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking (BEST). The workshop gave employers hands-on tools to:

  • Develop customized anti-human trafficking policies
  • Establish reporting and response protocols
  • Prepare frontline staff to identify and respond to signs of exploitation
  • Build partnerships with other businesses dedicated to prevention

“This workshop was an important step in preparing our city to both welcome the world and protect our community,” said Hedda McLendon, SVP Legacy. “We are grateful to the businesses who showed leadership today by committing to prevention strategies that will make Seattle safer for everyone.”

What’s Next

The workshop is part of Seattle FWC 2026’s Human Trafficking Prevention Initiative, which will continue in the months ahead:

  • Staff Training: More than 2,500 employees will complete the BEST Basics training course by January 2026.
  • Ongoing Support: A virtual Q&A session in January 2026 will give participants another opportunity to learn, ask questions, and strengthen their strategies.
  • Community Impact: By training and preparing staff, participating organizations are leaving a legacy of safety and resilience that extends well beyond FIFA World Cup 2026™.

Thank You

SeattleFWC26 extends its gratitude to every organization that participated in today’s workshop. Together, we are building a safer, more welcoming city for residents and visitors alike.
